The Punjab government is taking significant steps to revamp its Safe City Project in Lahore. Over 2,000 malfunctioning cameras are slated for repair during the first week of November. This initiative aligns with the vision of Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who recently held a meeting with officials to ensure all Safe City cameras become operational. Law enforcement agencies will benefit greatly from these restored cameras, allowing for quicker emergency responses and improved crime prevention through advanced technology.
Moreover, the authorities are extending surveillance coverage by installing cameras on all city buildings. This move aims to enhance security and maintain law and order. Additionally, the cities of Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and Gujranwala are set to receive upgraded camera surveillance systems, following Lahore’s lead.
A Chinese company has reportedly agreed to restore 6,500 non-operational cameras on Lahore’s main roads by August next year. Inspector General Police Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar played a pivotal role in this development, meeting with Huawei officials to facilitate the restoration process. These efforts reflect a broader push for advanced technology and safety measures in Punjab’s major cities, promising better security and more effective law enforcement in the region.
